FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – December 6, 2025
Inter Miami secured their first MLS Cup title with a 3-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday at Chase Stadium, completing the club’s sixth season with its most significant achievement to date.
Miami opened the scoring in the 8th minute when a cross from Tadeo Allende was deflected into the net by Vancouver defender Édier Ocampo. After halftime, Vancouver responded through Ali Ahmed, whose 60th-minute shot beat goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo to level the match at 1–1.
The turning point arrived in the 71st minute. Lionel Messi recovered possession in midfield and immediately connected with Rodrigo De Paul, who finished the play to restore Miami’s lead. Deep into stoppage time, Messi played Allende through the Vancouver back line, and the Argentine winger scored in the 96th minute to secure the result. Messi finished the match with two assists, while Allende recorded one goal and played a key role in the opening sequence that forced the early own goal.
For Vancouver, the loss concludes what was one of the most impressive seasons in club history. The Whitecaps reached the final behind strong performances from Ali Ahmed, Pedro Vite, Andrés Cubas, Ryan Gauld, and goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka, defeating several high-seeded opponents during their playoff run. Their balanced structure, reliance on young Canadian talent, and consistent performances throughout the season established them as one of MLS’s most competitive sides in 2025.
Miami’s victory also marks the final professional match for Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who previously announced they would retire following the 2025 season. The club now becomes the 16th different MLS Cup champion.
